Kitesurfing International Safety System
became the world's original kitesurfing training system ! The K.I.S.S. system was the world's first kitesurfing teaching system. The KISS System was developed in Hawaii by kitesurfing trainers, David Dorn and John Holzhall with assistance from many pioneer kitesurfers. The KISS system was the first teaching system to offer standards, and training, to promote kiteboarding safety on an international basis. The KISS techniques have now been widely adopted by the
kiteboarding community and industry and became the laid the foundation for many teaching systems
that followed,
including the KITES program at www.kiteboardcenter.com. The KISS recommends that every kiteboarder undergo adequate training from a certified
kiteboarding instructor. We also thank all the many other kiteboarders who have participated in a contributed to the program. In 2006 the KISS founder
and examiner David Dorn joined forces with the International Kiteboarding Organization
(I.K.O.) to become the instructor trainer,
examiner with the new organization. David Dorn and now runs the instructor
training courses under the IKO format and refers all the instructor certification to the larger organization.
The experience and expertise of years of teaching and instructor training under
the original system, have been merged into the curriculum and techniques
used by the new organization, and now has a greater reach thanks to the IKO's
worldwide infrastructure, and the affiliated schools network. The mission
and work of the KISS continues on through the IKO to promote kiteboarder safety
through a network of certified schools and instructors, and to support the
kitesurfing community. In 2007 the KISS ran their final instructor certification
courses, and have transitioned to use the IKO's ITC
course format. The majority of KISS instructors and trainers under the original
system have since been recertified and joined with the IKO network and other regional organizations.
Any remaining Instructors wishing to be recertified with can contact David Dorn
or ikointl.com to schedule an instructor equivalency course (IEC).
Just like kiteboarding itself, kite instruction is still evolving at a fast
pace. Our teaching programs are regularly updated and new materials are being
constantly being added. For more information on kiteboarder training, instructor certification and kiteboarding

CAUTION, Kitesurfing is an extreme sport that requires a high degree of water confidence and a good understanding of kite flying skills. The lightweight foils are extremely powerful and often overwhelm the novice and may place them in dangerous situations that can also endanger onlookers and innocent bystanders. A responsible attitude and Kitesurfing Training is essential for a safe entry into this sport.
