The I.K.O. system is the most widely accepted standard for, kiteboarding Instruction that covers all levels of kiteboarding. The emphasis is on safety, hands-on experience and technical information. Our Instructor team includes world champions, professional kitesurfers and Kiteboarding Instructor Trainers. Kitesurfing Pioneer and school founder, David Dorn, is certified IKO, WIPIKA, KISS, KITES instructor, and is also the director of Instructor Training with the IKO & KISS teaching Systems.
Action Sports follows the safety guidelines of the industry's most respected Training Systems.
Action Sports instructors undergo an extensive training and certification process to ensure that they can meet the safety standards and can provide the level of high quality instruction that the school provides.
Instructors must already be accomplished kiteboarders, just to be admitted into the kiteboarder training program.
Then the prospective instructors are put through a series of training programs, including practical skills, teaching methodology, and theoretical knowledge tests, and communication skills assessments. New instructors must also undergo on the job training with senior instructors, and do many hours as assistant instructors before making the grade to become a fully certified instructors. All Action Sports Instructors are trained in CPR and First Aid skills, and do water rescue training and jet-ski assisted kite-recovery skills with the Maui County Lifeguards. Once the kiteboarding instructor has become fully certified and trained to the standards, they are required to do site-specific training particular to the school’s teaching locations. Then our Instructors undergo a continuing review and evaluation process. And they also receive ongoing training updates and assistance from instructor trainer David Dorn. This keeps each instructor up to date techniques and introduce them to new equipment.

Kiteboarding Intro Class 3.5 hrs ("Day 1") $240.00 (+ Tax) Level 1

(The most popular single day lesson). This lesson is a perfect way to experience Kiteboarding! This lesson gives an introduction to the sport of kiteboarding. Covering the core skills. Wind direction and site selection, Essential kite flying skills are taught on land and in the water, including harness technique and board handling skills. This lesson covers all the basic safety protocols, use of safety systems and self rescue procedures, launching, landing and waterstart technique. We supply all the necessary equipment in a range of sizes appropriate to each step of your learning curve. With our progression technique, you will be spend more time doing and less time talking, you can progress at your own pace. Ground School, Trainer Kite, Self rescue and Water flying. This lesson can be the first installment in one of our longer training courses, so you can decide if you want to upgrade at any time. No previous experience is required. Students with previous watersports experience and board skills will learn even faster because our one-to-one instructor ratio ensures that you will learn at your own pace. Kiteboarding Shared/ Group Classes 3hrs $149.00 pp (+ Tax) Level 1

Families that want to play together, can take the group lesson. This option is good if you have a little more time and want to learn at a relaxed pace. Students share the experience, will learn the same skills at a slightly slower pace, taking turns and assisting each other. This class also shows students how to work together as a team. Each student learn both ends of the kite and learns the launching and landing skills necessary to being a good kite buddy. Often couples will take this class together. And family groups. It is not recommended to exceed 2 or 3 people per class. This is a good way to include a sibling or spouse that would otherwise sit it out. No previous experience is required.

Beginner Kiteboarding lesson teaches you all the basic skills.

Kiteboarding Short Course 3-Day $675.00 (+ Tax) Level 2

This 3-lesson course includes 9 hours of private kiteboarding instruction spread over three days. This is a discounted package. This course is the fast track into the Sport for people with a limited amount of time of challenging schedule. This course is designed for people with some prior watersports experience. The days need not be consecutive. The lesson covers all the techniques in the Kite Intro Class, Covering the core skills. Wind direction and site selection, Essential kite flying skills are taught on land and in the water, including harness technique and board handling skills. This lesson covers all the basic safety protocols, safety systems and self rescue procedures, launching, landing and waterstart technique. With our progression method, you can advance at your own pace. We start with; Ground school, and land flying the trainer kites, learn the safety systems, then on-water kite handling, safety and self rescue. Next is launching, Water-relaunching, board recovery and waterstart, & board riding techniques. We supply all the equipment necessary, and will change gear when needed to keep you challenged as you progress. This course is a suggested minimum for confident water persons who want to become independent and intend to buy their own gear.

Kiteboarding lessons get you on the kiteboard faster

Kiteboarding 5-Day Course $1050.00 (+ Tax) Level 3

This 5-lesson course includes 15 hours of kiteboarding instruction spread over five days. This is a discounted package. The classic course gives the student a great head start in the sport of kiteboarding. In the industry this is considered to be the basic level of training for those purchasing kiteboarding equipment. This course covers, Equipment selection, rigging and tuning for the various conditions, Safe launching procedures Assisted launching and self-launching, waterstarts and water recoveries. Navigate around moving & fixed objects. Students will have a solid understanding of kiteboarding safety protocols and self-rescue procedures. A complete range of boards and kites are provided to accelerate the learning process. This course is recommended for people with no previous watersports training who want to learn the sport of kiteboarding and have a thorough understanding of all the skills, and develop board riding skills. Students with previous watersports experience and board riding skills will achieve an even higher skill level according to their previous experience.

This 10-lesson course includes 30 hours of kiteboarding instruction spread over ten days. This is a discounted packge. This comprehensive course gives the student a solid foundation in the sport of kiteboarding. This course is the fast track into kiteboarding covering all the basic skills covered in the "Classic" course including equipment handling, kite-control skills, launching and landing techniques, safety systems and Ride-safe protocols. Students then progress to planing, riding and jibing, Upwind riding skills. The increased ride-time enables the student to hone their skills with constant feedback from the instructors, creating the most rapid progression possible. We can ride with you or caddy your equipment. In this course we do down-winder coast runs, and utilize alternate launch sites and beach locations. This course is great for someone who wants to take the sport of kiteboarding home with them, to a location without kiteboarding schools, or other assistance.

Kiteboarding Advanced 10-Day Course $2195.00 (+ Tax)

The advanced 10-day (30hr) course is the ultimate kiteboarding training program. The pre-requisite riding level for entry to the Advanced course is planing both directions, staying upwind and basic jibing (IKO level 3). The course builds on the basic skills of the intermediate student reinforcing a solid foundation and introducing many next level techniques. Jumping, Jibing, waveriding and looping are covered. Down-winders, and crossings. Best® and Naish® SLE (bow) performance kites will be used along with; directional, twin-tip, or wakeboard style boards. This is the most advanced kiteboarding course available on Maui. This course is a suitable preparation course for kitesurfers preparing for the IKO* instructor training courses (ITC's).

The kids program is designed to be fun and teach the kids the basic kite flying skills. sharing these skills with young kids helps prepare them of wind powered sports as they grow, and master the necessary skills. Kids are special, and they are fast learners. We have lots of experience teaching kite flying to young children. Clinics, and activities, and mixed family sessions. Kids lessons are shorter than adult lessons, usually lasting between one and two hours. Siblings, friends and families can learn together as a fun group activity. Kids are very impressionable, and forming a positive first impression, is vital in shaping their attitudes to the wind and water for the rest of their lives. The first day is one of the most important in a kids Kiteboarding career. Many newcomers will decide on this day whether this is the right sport for them or not. Much depends on the experiences that kids will have in the first few hours or even minutes. Our professional Certified kiteboarding Instructors can help you unleash your full Kiteboarding potential with customized personal training. The program is tailored to your individual needs and desires. All levels of kiteboarding are available. If you have never ridden on Maui before we strongly recommend taking an Orientation class, Our instructors can ride with you, giving you on-water instruction, advice and assistance. We teach both directional and wakeboard styles. Four-line, Five-line, Bow-Kite, Foil-Kite techniques are available. You have access to our complete range of the latest equipment or you can bring your newly purchased equipment along for assembly, customizing and tune-up. We can arrange downwind coast runs, crossings, inter-island instruction, international instruction, Private Lessons are available in; Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Japanese, & English.

Start your career by becoming an Assistant Kiteboarding instructor. This is your first step to becoming an IKO Kiteboarder logo.

Action Sports proudly offers Instructor Certification Courses from the IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization), the world's most widely recognized certification. The Five-day IKO ITC courses are available on scheduled dates and pre-registration is required because the course numbers are limited. Prospective kiteboarding instructors should check out the entry requirements for their course because they all have minimum standards. The IKO Course requires IKO Level "N3" skill levels or greater. Current Adult CPR and First Aid certification course. (This course is scheduled to precede the ITC & IEC courses) The 1-day Medic FirstAid / CPR Course (courses run up to 7 to 8hours) includes Audiovisual presentations, live demonstrations, practical exercises, a written test and a

practical test. This course is essential for all instructor training courses, and watersportsmen. These skills can save a life. Adult First Aid & CPR techniques are covered in this 1-Day course. CPR certification is valid for two years from certification date. Course costs $90 and *includes a manual and certification card.
