KAHULUI - Maui's only "city center" with shopping malls, movie theatres, restaurants, major stores and the main airport. This is a business center, and does not offer vacation accommodation.
Kahului is where the main airport is, and is usually the first part of the
island you see. Kanaha beach is located right behind the Kahului Airport, and is
the location of the Windsurfing and Kiteboarding lessons.
KANAHA BEACH - Kanaha Beach is Maui's most popular
windsurfing and kiteboarding beach. It is located in Kahului town, behind the
Kanaha Pond, and Kahului Airport. It is a little difficult to get to, but is the
premier location for ind sports on Maui.
KIHEI - Located along the south shore, Kihei boasts an abundance of condo accommodation and caters to our visitors. It is a great area for groups, families, or those wanting to be close to services and
activities. Shops, restaurants and many great swimming beaches. This is where the
surfing and SUP lessons are. North Kihei also has a several popular windsurfing
beaches too.
KUAU - Kuau is an upscale residential
community close to Hookipa beach, and is best known for Mama's Fish House
restaurant. There are also several advanced surfing breaks in this area,
including "Noriega's", and "Mamas". There is a small beach with a rock pool there
too.
KULA - Rural area and the highest of the upcountry villages along the sides of Haleakala, and is known for its great views and cool nights.
There is a lavender farm, surfing goat dairy, Botanical gardens, Eat a crepe at
La Provence, and visit Tedeschi winery at nearby Ulupalakua Ranch.
LAHAINA - Historic center of Maui. Famous "Front Street" features an unusual collection of Hawaiiana, Art Galleries, tourist shops and activity centers.
Many restaurants, and some nitelife as well. Lahaina has a some great surfing
beaches an catches the northwest swells. Surf breaks include "break wall", and
"shark pits".
LAUNIUOPOKO - This is a famous surfing park, at Mile
Marker 17, great for a picnic and family day at the beach, with plenty of nice
SUP and longboarding waves, and now has an expanding
residential community.
MAALAEA - A small fishing and boating community with harbor, three restaurants, and several oceanfront condos (basic-midrange category). Well known in the surfing community for the fastest wave in the world "Freight Trains".
Maalaea harbor is the embarkation point for many whale watch cruises, and
charter fishing boats.
MAKAWAO - 1200 feet in elevation, "cowboy" or "paniolo" town with a village center of shops, restaurants, library and post office.
Makawao is home to Charlie's restaurant and niteclub. Has a public pool, and
several bars. Check out the sweetbread and local style baked goods at the Komoda
Store & bakery.
MAKENA - Best known for "Makena Beach" (AKA "Big Beach" a MUST while visiting Maui), this area is considered upscale with the
Maui Prince Hotel, Gannon's restaurant, two golf courses, the Makena Surf condos, and a small group of private homes.
Makenna landing has several good scuba and snorkeling sites as well.
PAIA - A rustic but quaint township, complete with bank, post office, gas station and
many delightful shops, including Maui Crafts Guild, Paia Mercantile, Hemp House,
Mahina Clothing, and a Letarte bikini store. Restaurants include; Paia
Fishmarket, Flatbread company, Milagro's, Cafe des amis. and shop for groceries
at Mana foods. Paia has a couple of our best beaches - Paia Bay, Baldwin Beach and Baby Beach.
PUKALANI - Also approx. 1200 feet in elevation, Pukalani is a residential area with a golf course
driving range, at its center. Most properties have great views.
SPRECKELSVILLE - A small residential community set around one of the most popular windsurfing spots in the world.
Stable road, Camp one, and Euro beach. Sprecklesville is located right under the
runway flight path. So there is no kiteboarding allowed, but it has good
windsurfing conditions.
WAILUKU - Very local residential area, home to our government offices.
There are several good restaurants, Site of the lush Iao Valley, and the banana
bungalow hostel.
WAILEA - Maui's most "upscale" area with lovely manicured landscaping, large oceanfront hotels, and several superior condo properties.
HAIKU - Rural country area with some great ocean views. Small clusters of residential or agricultural housing set amongst pineapple fields and meadows.
The Haiku cannery houses several board makers, and local businesses including
Colleen's eatery, and a convenience store. This is the most lush of the upcountry towns. HALEAKALA - Haleakala national park is best know for its national park, featuring te Halewakale Crater, The rim is 10,000 feet above sea level, and offers a unique opportunity to see a volcanic caldera, and amazing views (weather permitting). There are some great hikes in the crater but you need to be properly prepared and attired. Check out the visitors center for information before hiking this area. KAANAPALI - Tropical resort area with upscale hotels and shopping areas. Great beach with good snorkeling at "Black Rock".
