LOOKING FORWARD
Action Sports Maui is committed to a long term program of research
and development to explore the many possibilities and directions of future
water sports. Action Sport's commitment into kitesurfing is part of the
ongoing quest. We have always had our eyes on the future. We seek to improve on
the equipment and skills that we have. This restlessness and drive is the basis
of the evolution we have seen in windsurfing and now kitesurfing. With the rapid
development of watersports, to maintain the status quo is to go backwards. New
concepts and directions are constantly presenting themselves. Although we use
our experiences to guide us forward, we always keep an open mind to fresh ideas
and abstract thinking. This philosophy has kept Action Sports on the leading
edge of development all these years.
As we develop our programs we invest hundreds of hours prototyping, testing, and
experimenting.
STRATEGIC EVOLUTION
Seaflight Research and kite evolution. Action Sport's Seaflight Research Division is headed by Dave
Terry accomplished surfer, windsurfer, kitesurfer, photographer and
above all visionary. David predicted that the quantum shift required to master
the wind and waves for personal propulsion, would not come solely from a
laboratory, but from raising human consciousness enough to accept the
possibilities. Terry has been a long time supporter of innovations and advances in sea flight
technology prior to 1983. In 1983-84 the Wind Weapon sailcraft was co-invented
by Tom Magruder and Robert Crowell, and in 1986 Dave Terry collaborated with the
inventors using his expertise and contacts to help popularize the
Windweapon ™. David was a
significant supporter and a pioneer in Maui's kiteboarding evolution since1997.
David's ideas have been strategically influencing the direction of development
that many emerging new watersports have taken. Dave Terry's Seaflight
vision has been evolving since before the birth of kiteboarding. In 2006 we now
see kiteboarding
itself as a stepping stone and bridge to what will be possible with Seaflight
propulsion systems in the near future. R&D prototypes of Sky-car, Kite-boat, and
Wind-wings, are all by-products of this line of research.
INVESTING IN THE FUTURE
Terry's extensive wind tunnel research and prototype development lead to the new
concept of the Seaflight. Recent developments in construction techniques and
manufacturing processes have now brought this product closer to the market.
The popularization of extreme watersports and adventure sports, has prepared a
