IKO Assistant Instructor Course

Duration: 5 days

The AITC is a recognized IKO certification course. The assistant instructor program is perfect for candidates with no prior teaching background in kiteboarding. Assistant Instructors can begin working in kiteboarding schools and under the supervision of an IKO L2 instructors.  The AITC is a prerequisite if you intend on following an ITC (instructor’s course L1). The courses can be scheduled on demand, or are listed on the IKO Training Calendar, and can be arranged before ITC courses.

Training Course:  The training is organized in 3 steps and is completed in a minimum of 5 days. The 2 first steps are: – Evaluation of your competencies: kiteboarding knowledge, practice level, boat piloting skills, – Theoretical competencies: level check and update of knowledge.  A visit of the school also takes place during the 1st day in order for you to better understand the way it works (bookings, equipment storage, spot, etc.) During the 3rd step, you will work with your instructor level 2 in live situation. You act as assistant instructor during at least 10-18 hours of lessons.
Note: at the beginning of the training, each candidate receives an Assistant Instructor Manual as well as a copy of the Kiteboarder’s Workbook. The assistant instructor’s diploma is sent at the end of the training and upon successful completion. Your benefits: become part of IKO’s international network! Moreover, you have priority over other candidates for ITC level 1.

IKO Assistant Instructor (AITC) Pre-requisites:

  • Be at least 16 years old (under 18 must have parental consent).

  • Be certified as an IKO kiteboarder level 3N.

  • Have a valid First aid & CPR certificate.

  • Must be able to read and write.

 

IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) Level One course ITC.

Kiteboarding Instructor Training Course

Duration: 5-days (approx 40 hours)

The ITC Course is the worlds most popular kiteboarding instructor training course. The IKO certification is recognized around the world. Trainees provide their own personal kiteboarding equipment, lunches, and transportation. Spaces are limited, so book early. Course costs include an IKO Instructor Manual, IKO Kiteboarder Manual, and Certificate (upon graduation). A $200 registration fee is required to book this course. The balance is due 30 days prior course commencement. The course begins with Online Pre-ITC Training courses that may take several days to complete. The Instructor Manual is available on the first day of the course. There will be a practical riding skills test. IKO Assistant level course is a pre-requisite. It is recommended that candidates log some hours assisting at an IKO school. Candidates may be required after the course to do shadowing hours. If you are interested in this course but do not yet have all the prerequisites, let us know and we will be able to assist you to meet the requirements. We strongly recommend that you get your name on the list ASAP as numbers are strictly limited.

IKO Instructor Level 1, (ITC) prerequisites:

  • Be at least 18 years old,

  • Be a certified IKO Kiteboarder level 3N or equivalent level with the ability to: jump and grab, ride toe side, ride upwind, recover the board in deep water, complete a rider recovery while body dragging, make a self-rescue in deep water, self-launch and self-land, which are all evaluated during the ITC.

  • Have a valid IKO Assistant Instructor Certification,

  • Have a valid first aid and CPR,

  • Pass the online Pre-ITC course with a minimum score of 70%,

  • Be able to read, write and speak fluently the language the course is given,

  • Sign the ITC candidate waiver and participation form.

IKO Certification: By the end of the 5 days course, an instructor will be able to:

  • Pass the Pre-Course Online study tests on theoretical knowledge.
  • Provide the appropriate equipment to his student and adapt it.
  • Develop communication and teaching techniques that allow the students to understand and perform the required task.
  • Recognize and manage the mental state of his student.
  • Evaluate his students before the lesson.
  • Evaluate the reason for failure of the student and provide information to help him improve.
  • Manage his teaching area and anticipate the dangers:
  • (obstacles, passer-by, other students and instructors).
  • Teach the proper use of safety equipment.
  • Perform rescues for students & other ocean users (if necessary).
  • Self evaluate his professional weakness and strength after having taught in live situation.
  • Act as observer during a teaching live situation.
  • Identify an instructor candidate’s professional weakness or strength.
  • Describe the key point of an exercise to enable the student to do it.
  • Certify a student with the Kiteboarder card.
  • Deal with own stress tiredness.
  • Be a good role model.
  • Obtain a minimum rate of 70% at the final written exam.
     

An IKO instructor level 1 is qualified to:

  • Teach kiteboarding with a ratio of maximum 2 kites/4 students simultaneously.
  • Teach kiteboarding following IKO standards.
  • Certify students up to IKO kiteboarder level 3.

IKO “IEC” instructor Equivalency Course

Dates:    During ITC Courses or by Special Arrangement.

Duration: 5 days

Location: Kanaha Beach, Maui, Hawaii USA

The IEC equivalency instructor program is for certified instructors from other teaching systems to become IKO certified kiteboarding instructors. Current certification in PASA, VDWS, FAV, or FEV. is required, as well as 1year prior teaching experience. The courses can be scheduled by arrangement with three or more candidates. IEC may be completed during an ITC Course if spaces are available. The IEC Course during an ITC is 5-days. The IEC course is also used for expired IKO Instructors who want to get re-certified.

Training course:  The training is usually completed in a minimum of (3 days ONLY For a stand alone IEC course) or usually 5 days (for an IEC during an ITC).

IEC Course Prerequisites:
* Be at least 19 years old.
* Provide copy of a current valid PASA, VDWS, FAV, or FEV kiteboarding instructor certification.
* Provide signed letter of attestation of a minimum of 1 year teaching experience as a certified kiteboarding instructor.
* Meet all the equivalent prerequisites of an IKO instructor candidate.
* Provide a copy of a current, valid First aid and CPR certificate.
* Have a power boat license, or boat safety certificate (skills will be evaluated during the IEC).
* Please provide all documents to the organizer before the course.

 

 
 

MFA MEDIC First Aid and CPR Provider Course

Duration: 1-day

Location: Kihei Maui or Kahului, Hawaii USA

Entry level: None needed. Anyone can follow this course, with a minimum age of 12.

You wonder what to do in case of an emergency to help a person in need before the arrival of medical support? Then this program is for you. This certification is usually a requirement for all professional watersports instructors. This course is also meets the prerequisite requirements for IKO instructor assistants and instructors level 1.

The instructional system provides an effective and easy-to-use learning process. Reinforced by video and case scenarios, the program will help you build your skills and confidence by alternatively listening, watching and practicing with other trainees and on a CPR training manikin.

An excellent quality manual is provided with a wallet skill guide.

Contents of the MEDIC FIRST AID Basic Program: theoretical and practical first aid courses including all necessary techniques as well as Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation.

How long does the course take? 1 day (up to 6.5 hours including breaks).

Evaluation: after completing a multiple choice questionnaire and demonstrating your skill according to your reactions to a simulated situation, you will receive the IKO/MFA certificate of recognition, the MFA basic manual and a first aid provider card.

MFA MEDIC FIRST AID Basic CPR and First Aid for Adults is a CPR and first aid training program designed specifically for the occupational first aid provider. This extremely flexible program will help employers meet OSHA and other federal and state regulatory requirements for training employees how to respond and care for medical emergencies at work.


Jetski Rescue and kiteboarder recovery course

Duration: 1-day

Location: Kanaha Beach Kahului, Hawaii USA

A course requirement for Kiteboarding instructors. Jetski and boat safety, kiteboarder recovery skills course. Learn kite-launching, landing, and rider rescue and recovery skills. Course includes classwork, ground-school scenarios, and practical evaluation of rescue skills. This course is essential for IKO instructors and training center managers and professional lifeguards, and other water rescue workers. This course is recommended for all professional watersports instructors.

Pre-requisites:
* Be at least 16 years old (parental consent if under 18).
* Have a power boat license, or boat safety certificate.


2-Week  Kiteboarding Instructor Training Course

Duration: total 12 days 

Location: Kanaha Beach Kahului, Hawaii USA

A complete course for first time Kiteboarding instructors. IKO Assistant Instructor course, plus, Medic First Aid course, boat safety training, and the 5-day Level One IKO Instructor Training Course (ITC). These extended courses are becoming increasingly popular. Send your information to the organizer and we can give you some assistance with travel and accommodation. Courses can be spread over 2 weeks up to 2 months, or tailored to suit your needs. Great for gap year students.

Prerequisites:

  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Kiteboard for more than 12 months, and a minimum of 6 months at IKO level N3 (upwind riding, jumping & other skills).

  • Have a strong riding level, including be able to perform jumps with grabs, controlled turns, switch (toe-side) riding.

  • Be able to ride confidently and safely between other riders.

  • Have a power boat license, or boat safety certificate.


New Course Dates!

We have some regularly scheduled IKO ITC course dates. Note; that several IKO Assistant Training Courses (AITC) are available throughout the year, so they can be completed well before each Instructor Training Course (ITC) begins. AITC courses can run as often as needed when the required number of participants have registered. The MFA “Medic CPR/First Aid” course usually precedes each ITC Course. Please book early for ITC course, and there is a pre-course work to do. Do not wait until the last minute to book these courses because the lead in time and preparation work can take several weeks.
